Interview with MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger
by Chris Mateer
Hiss Golden Messenger have returned with a stellar, new full-length album called
Haw (Paradise of Bachelors). It is HGM's first set of new material since their
much celebrated Poor Moon (Tompkins Square), not including Lord, I Love The Rain,
which was composed of some of MC Taylor's unearthed home recordings, previously
unreleased tunes, and covers. You can read more about these records by checking
out my two previous interviews with MC Taylor on Poor Moon and Lord, I Love The
Rain. In addition to Hiss Golden Messenger's Haw, MC Taylor... Kenny Roby talks about the return of Kenny Roby
by Hal Bogerd
Kenny Roby's Six String Drag released two excellent albums including High Hat on
Steve Earle's E-Squared label. Ryan Adams namechecked Roby in Rolling Stone as
"the best songwriter that not enough people have heard yet". But Six String Drag
broke up in spite of the critical acclaim and then Kenny released several solo albums
following the split... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykOMPR6-jf-AprLAKnpLZrNc5glSYKg9Oqutz-Zf3DwDKIo-MUsZLMSkZNP-QjEe42-mHZzO-aQbfSayH2psKC9UPvgE_6CeeO4dVFoQZlsSXLxucA0wFGu-U8r23wz91DDj0zGSrmY0l_DzlP5jaQGaEtMFW5A9MQPKbCgL3eZ8PttkCOAA-KxlNC4f4QtCKms=]

Fishtank Ensemble and the passion of Gypsy-Jazz
by Terry Roland
The Fishtank Ensemble have history. Not only as a band, but they have also successfully
blended hundreds of years of music, tracing a heritage rich with substance, style,
and a near overdose of hot-blooded passion. On first listen, the term "gypsy-jazz"
will be among the genre labels that come to mind. It is hard to mistake the clear
guitar and fiddle... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykPtItQsXHUieFcwgP6Zwl4KHyghQBH6L_l0HeRMYtccjkWOQLsB6HrRIWF9z37BKDS8R4RCwuDILTuuO6jQInMIxXd6nSyYwi3Ejrbg9APCx9n9MG7oOV-7NEqYjAso0cWpp0mUP55ajZpSyiQBanCZzCuZoxhX5v-yxajTahq5-7OC4u56cbea9S7fie8aKccxAx9DgCGYwA==]

Review of 3 Penny Acre - 'Rag and Bone'
by Michael Cockram
When a trio works well, it's like sitting on a three-legged stool. There's just
enough structure to keep things balanced while the asymmetry adds an interesting
tension to the experience. Rag and Bone, 3 Penny Acre's new recording, is a spare
and polished gem. Like their previous two recordings, this album plays to the group's
strengths: the blend of three distinct...More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykPXWytDi3WT2JkUu9d3-OWo-_19GOMRy-7PtHPYVBeY0hyi8yF5YHYcldJsKq10tjWfljheDQmy1YnlyJKE0tYR5lS9cI0JKDYYNr4K4oydWAGbHEFQn2S0NW2KfpGshYbL0Mf3VOSyqgsaiMYCc8Ll]

Steve Earle - Can't keep a good man down
by Peter Blackstock
I can still hear them blaring in the back of my mind, those gleaming brass trumpets
and trombones, thrusting right and left, toward one end zone and then the other,
as the University of Texas marching band zipped through "The Wabash Cannonball".
Aside from "The Eyes of Texas" and the UT fight song, "The Wabash Cannonball" was
the band's most oft-played number during Longhorns games at Memorial Stadium in
Austin, so much so that I grew up thinking it was one of the school's official
songs. It wasn't until a couple years ago, when Townes Van Zandt recorded it on
his Roadsongs... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykOcpg48p_nQFwU-j7XshIPDaBEy1GLfgeN2Kx9r9A7sTgJAyV9Dp_rhyk5MNOjS44pZwFXmVdaGtEM00ZwuvUrTa5dR7eeG3kJENCc79QehZfLPm_FwMj0uoBw6Msp-OCxRRcQKU2w7jm_eCBEb_sZx43N2k6NBKuQxLHOHJ_J_5Q==]

La Famille Leger - from heart to Hearth

If you've been a blogger or writer or broadcaster for long enough, there's a good
chance that you'll be found by people who do public relations. Doesn't matter much
if your area of interest is music, film, cooking, cars, sports or knitting, trying
to get you to write about their clients or influence public opinion is an ancient
tradition and one that goes back to Socrates... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykODeYKP8nc75y3D6e_k6R3Rl6zb-i7cgaISS5yMUbKC6vEwAGx5D3HITvFlMb_rjrTO_vnM6OlUxJ-UU9T1SrNndSrRtkW1zJSFTpCFEhEgzbuk3YuTu-UM_nAQDQHZ8GfOArJzNrRVC4Ll1_sDZFrNWglOmthUr3s0bIfC7rvSZyfW8olyFAi2]

the Gramblers:
That 70s sound
by Modern Acoustic
Not long ago I wrote of my quest to find a new sound, to get outside the now-overcrowded
genre of "Americana" - acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle. While I still love
the music played by some of the bands in the genre, it is so oversaturated that
it is getting impossible to distinguish one from another. Worse, is that many are
poor or soulless versions... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001K9R67OrAykNeKvPSyC8KbqlzKfeB4PVddoTl-Cmxm_CEUoZMhNV-AggKhL_0855RQrKPkXJy50hqHQ2qtydf6yKkT_NUjsOnkyLN3huIrhDcrn8rEjhxxrkkW41905rXaLYifidF6WcNFKHYJyPQfEaAefPB8nW8cWdYhJLceAQ=]
