®and Museum and The Americana Music Association continue their partnership this year, once again presenting stellar events in the Ford Theater during the Americana Music Festival & Conference September 18-22, 2013. All programs are included with museum admission and free to museum members and to AMA conference registrants with badge. Program passes are required for each program and can be obtained at the museum two hours prior to the start of the program. Programs will be streamed live at

Interview: Dr. John, hosted by Nick Spitzer
Dr. John personifies the musical heritage of New Orleans. His era-bridging career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on great Crescent City recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex, and Frankie Ford. A notorious gun incident forced Dr. John to give up the guitar and concentrate on organ and piano. He moved west in the 1960s and continued to be in demand as a session musician. With Gris-Gris, his 1968 debut solo album, he launched a career that adapted Louisiana tradition to modern rock & roll. He went on to earn legendary status and win six Grammys. Nick Spitzer, producer and host of public radio'sAmerican Routes, will conduct this one-on-one interview.

Songwriter Session: Rodney Crowell
Grammy winner Rodney Crowell joined Emmylou Harris's Hot Band as a guitarist and soon became one of her primary songwriters, penning songs like "Till I Gain Control Again" and "Ain't Livin' Long Like This." His songwriting career took full flight when "Leavin' Louisiana in the Broad Daylight" hit #1 for the Oak Ridge Boys. Among his other significant compositions are "Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper's Dream)" (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) and "Somewhere Tonight" (Highway 101). Crowell scored five #1 singles from his 1988 album, Diamonds & Dirt, including "I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried" and a cover of the 1960 Buck Owens hit "Above and Beyond." Crowell released his memoir, Chinaberry Sidewalks, in 2011. His latest recording is a collaboration with Emmylou Harris titled Old Yellow Moon.

Concert and Conversation: The Big E: Salute to Buddy Emmons
Pedal steel guitar legend Buddy Emmons, whose staggering, soulful technique set standards by which countless steel players measure themselves today, will be honored in this program of interviews and performances. Emmons's pioneering contributions as both a player and inventor have earned him the enduring respect and admiration of his peers. His sterling musicianship graces groundbreaking recordings by Ray Charles, Little Jimmy Dickens, Duane Eddy, Vince Gill, John Hartford, Gram Parsons, Ray Price, Linda Ronstadt, George Strait, Ernest Tubb, Faron Young and countless others. Emmons is celebrated on a new CD, The Big E: Salute to Buddy Emmons. Hosted by Bill Lloyd, this program will include appearances by Duane Eddy, Dan Dugmore, Dean Miller, Buck Reid, Tommy White, Country Music Hall of Fame member Pig Robbins, Big Eproducer Steve Fishell and more. Emmons himself will attend but will not perform.
