From Kim Ruehl, your Guide to Folk Music

...because, why not? Woody Guthrie was one of the finest American folksingers to ever mosey on into the craft. Last week, the folks at Rounder Records and those at the Woody Guthrie Archive released a behemoth box set of all the recordings and projects Woody Guthrie ever did with and for the American government. From his songs for the Bonneville Dam Project or the five hours of interviews he gave Alan Lomax at the Smithsonian. The release of this box set makes it as good a time as any to consider Guthrie's remarkable life, career, and influence.
