The Americana Music Association congratulates its 2012 Americana Duo/Group of the Year The Civil Wars on its No. 1 Billboard Top 200 debut, The Civil Wars, this week.
 
The duo's newest album debuted at the top of the charts, selling 116,000 units. The self-titled album also sold 81,000 downloads, making it No. 1 on the Digital Albums Chart as well. The Civil Wars' previous album Barton Hollow peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard chart last year. The record has been certified gold, selling 620,000+ units.
 
The pair was nominated for the Americana Duo/Group of the Year and New/Emerging Artist of the Year in 2011 and in 2012, performed on the Grammy Awards and won Best Folk Album for Barton Hollow.

Registration rates for the 2013 Americana Music Festival and Conference, Presented by Nissan will go up soon. Rates are currently $350 for Americana Music Association Members and $450 for Non Members until Sunday, Aug. 18 at midnight. Starting Monday, Aug. 19, rates will increase. Purchase your conference registration by visiting our website store at www.americanamusic.org. Conference registration lets you gain access to the Americana Honors & Awards Show on Sept. 18 at the historic Ryman Auditorium, as well as the daytime panels and seminars and the evening music showcases Sept. 18-22.
 
 
Americana Music Association's own Jed Hilly was showcased last week in Music Row magazine. The article highlights the Association's all-time high membership and the growth of the Americana Music Festival and Conference from 56 acts to 140 acts this year. Hilly tells the story of meeting Levon Helm at his home in New York, convincing him to bring his Midnight Ramble sessions to Nashville with a handshake in his kitchen, and marking at turning point for the Association.
