| | The bluegrass world gathered in Nashville last week to celebrate another great year on the bluegrass circuit. Along with all the panel discussions and industry meetings, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) handed out awards for achievement and showcased artists during a festival called, aptly, the World of Bluegrass. Here's a look at this year's nominees and winners. | | IBMA Award Nominees and Winners If you want to know what's going on in the bluegrass world, a great place to start is this list of nominees for the best artists and albums making their way around the world in the past year. There's not a dull one in the bunch. | All About Doc Watson (IBMA Guitarist of the Year) Doc Watson passed away in the past year, and with him went the hands which have inspired generations of guitar pickers in all manner of genres. Watson redefined the way the guitar was regarded in popular music and his influence almost goes without saying. The IBMA called him the Guitarist of the Year this year. Learn more about Doc here. | Punch Brothers Profile Nominated for this year's IBMA Award for Instrumental Group of the Year, the Punch Brothers are easily one of the most talented young bands on the entire folk music circuit over the past few years. Their instrumental dexterity, paired with incredibly well-fused songwriting, makes them a band to watch. | Alison Krauss & Union Station - 'Paper Airplane' Alison Krauss & Union Station are old hats at the IBMA Awards, having dominated nominations and awards in past years. So, it was a no-brainer that their new album Paper Airplane was up for Album of the Year.
