From Kim Ruehl, your Guide to Folk Music
A lot of interesting things are going on with big-time folksingers hitting the mainstream lately. First off, there are new albums from Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers - both big-news releases. Then, a new film about the life and career of Rodriguez - the legendary lost folksinger - is making waves. Learn more about 'Searching for Sugar Man' with the interview below.

Talking to Sugar Man: An Interview with Rodriguez
The story of Rodriguez is one of those rare, once-in-a-generation stories of an artist who was more or less lost to the world, while becoming a legend whose music preceded him. Now, rediscovered by the American mainstream, a new movie called 'Searching for Sugar Man' tells the tale of his amazing music. Check out this great interview with the man himself.

Review: Mumford & Sons - 'Babel'
Speaking of great stories in modern music, the appearance of Mumford & Sons on the American music scene back in 2009 completely blew contemporary folk and mainstream music wide open. Their follow-up CD is earning a lot of praise from critics and the blogosphere. Find out what About.com Folk Music thought of it.

Chris Thile Is a Genius (Not Really News)
Last week, news broke that Chris Thile - the former mandolinist for Nickel Creek and now-frontman of jazz/folk/indie/rock fusion troupe Punch Brothers - had been awarded a MacArthur Grant. Seems like a perfect time to learn more about Thile's music. Check out this profile.

The Verdict: Avett Brothers - 'The Carpenter'
The Avett Brothers are another troup of indie folk/roots/rock innovators who have been tearing up the national stage the past few years. 'The Carpenter' follows their big breakout album, and does so with considerable artistry. Check out my full review.
