 | | Americana Music Association Announces New Hires and Promotions Danna Strong, currently Director of Operations, will add Conference Producer to her title. Michelle Aquilato has been named Director of Marketing. Whitney Holmes has been named Operations Coordinator. Kim Fowler, of Two Dog Media, has been retained to handle publicity for the Association. “These appointments truly reflect the growing significance of our genre and the health of what is clearly a resurgent and vital music business landscape,” said executive director Jed Hilly. “Our membership has gone up 30% in the last year, the number of artist submissions to perform at our festival is at an all-time high, and the caliber of our conference panels rivals any event I have ever attended. Danna, Michelle, Whitney and Kim’s commitment to Americana will only help us service our artists and fans even better.” Strong started with the AMA by volunteering her services at the Association’s founding meeting, before the organization had a charter or name, in 1999. In 2003, she became a full time employee and was instrumental in building the infrastructure of the not for profit group. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, Strong now formally oversees all aspects of the annual Americana Music Conference, from logistics to panel and workshop selection and coordination. In Aquilato's new position, she will oversee all of the AMA's marketing, social media and radio station relations, including management of the Americana Airplay Chart. She brings with her 25 years of music business experience having spent 15 of those with Sony Music in Sales & Marketing in Los Angeles and New York. Since moving to Nashville in 2007, Michelle has been an instrumental volunteer for the AMA working on the annual festival and handling social media. For the last two years, Michelle has been working with Jim Lauderdale, managing his day to day operations. Holmes started as an intern before serving as the Association’s Administrative Assistant for two years. She also serves as coordinator of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest for Merlefest and sales associate for Ernest Tubb Record Shops. In her new role she will provide operations support for both office staff and membership. A 22-year veteran of the music business, Fowler opened Two Dog Media in 2007 after eight years as VP of artist and media relations at Sugar Hill Records. She created and implemented national media campaigns for an eclectic roster that included Dolly Parton, Nickel Creek, Tim O’Brien, Scott Miller, Sonny Landreth, Guy Clark and Allison Moorer among others. Fowler was also with Mercury Records, Rising Tide Records and Network Ink.
