From Kim Ruehl, your Guide to Folk Music
With the weather warming up most places and spring break rolling in, a lot of people are starting to think about organizing camping trips. And what's a good camping trip without gathering around the fire for an old-fashioned singalong? Check out some great campfire singalong songs here.

Campfire Classics
From old timey folk songs so old we're not sure where they came from, to more contemporary folk-pop anthems like "American Pie," there are plenty of great options for entertaining your friends around a campfire. Check out these classics.

"Goodnight Irene"
This classic love song - popularized by the great folk-bluesman Leadbelly - may have a dark and sinister side (a few dramatic lines about killing onesself over a broken heart), but it's easy and repetitive chorus make it a great pick for the campfire singalong.

"Don't Think Twice It's Alright"
"Don't Think Twice" is a great selection to play around the campfire, as it lends itself to easy harmony and the guitar part is a simple, accessible progression (even for sleepy campers) which makes it easy for beginning strummers to play along.

"Big Rock Candy Mountain"
This funny song is full of absurd imagery (cigarette trees?) and is meant to be a ploy to pull unassuming youngsters into a life on the bum. It's deceptive and hilarious and a load of fun to sing along to once you start to catch on.
