A drive-by Sunday with Pete Seeger and friends
by Easy Ed
This picture was taken yesterday, in the early afternoon of Sunday June 16th in
the year 2013. The photographer was Elizabeth Daza and it ran in some editions of
Newsday. The man is ninety-four years old and he followed a spirited song-dance
performance from a friend from the past, Buffy Sainte-Marie, who at seventy-two
is still a mere child. Father's Day with Pete Seeger and my boys...I wrote that
it was not like being in church, it was church. We pulled into the parking lot
of the Dobbs Ferry train station beside the river about ten in the morning to the
sound of bagpipes... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001bQKkq6lRHsxNzKM4sEQ4VVK-QesscY7ktlzwgauVIbBRk0hti6L3PpWSGXPVEABJWg5QLAc48PQTDGx1foEPnqS-Uckk1NrL41WEjE0p_NrYaR5ERqDtBR1qn5LN7RZ6Izdccqe7PuLLmBgBYrBoFANac0Q_vUw6PiamWQLOBjom5VtlXt9zv-qKE0sHnrOzO72pYhO7qVsRsiuObw8trg==]

Review of Jason Isbell - 'Southeastern'
by Chris Martin
Jason Isbell has proven time and time again that he is a true wordsmith and when
it comes to writing songs there are few that can match his lyricism. In his early
days it was songs like "Danko/Manuel", "TVA", and "Decoration Day" that clued listeners
in to his talents. Using his words, Isbell is able to paint a vivid picture with
songs that allow listeners to see... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001bQKkq6lRHsyCl0b-xWGym22Y0AxK001MBQkmFKwyanpJmOXE-73kUk0dBXUDf6OKSK96LgYxvE8TG6wpn39bjyRouXQ0QlMibRGUirbQ7uOlul43aePvIpsB_U9a4ZQtyWiteWw47AIE5If1f0mNmaquq7h5wS0lo782xGk-jP9UtoS68lReVw==]

John Moreland - "Nobody gives a damn about
songs anymore"
by Gilded Palace
I don't watch a lot of television; when I do it's mostly the news. A busy family
life plus a lot of time away on the road certainly puts a kink in being able to
keep up with a series-based drama, so I've missed most of the likes of Justified
and Sons Of Anarchy. When I do catch an episode, it's clear many of these shows
have a pretty cool music policy. Among... 'The Living Room Sessions, Vol. 2', by Ravi Shankar
by Doug Heselgrave
Taking the plastic covering off of 'The Living Room Sessions Volume 2' CD was like
opening those Christmas presents so painstakingly wrapped by my grandmother just
days before she died nearly half a year earlier. As much as I was excited about
hearing the music, and as much as I wanted to know what was inside my Grandmother's
present... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001bQKkq6lRHszM7rqtTmOqgHXQvQi2Fp__vXoSc96LGYw-DeAGhlcTlQETUcPWMHlV8I6RVaMMc_FdvRiWdwuZAnqOF1vE29_5nrvsaJ4MhrNFKCKypvcIn7w--ZvcT1IqANyBULP33NZ9babcVjlcbFoUHDzax33NCKBCfdznk6252RwKPjHpypR1j9EkGvHbdR7jcr4EY9mLkCqvpZrA7g==]

Loose-leaf memoirs * Chet Flippo unearths a few pages of history that Doug Sahm
left behind
by Chet Flippo
In the summer of 1973, Doug Sahm had settled into a rambling, leased wooden house
on a tree-shaded hillside above the Soap Creek Saloon out on Bee Caves Road, in
what was then rural Austin, Texas. His furnishings were simple: a bed, a table,
two chairs, two spoons, two forks, two knives, two plates, a phonograph, hundreds
of LPs, several amps, and a number of guitars. The LPs were mostly country classics,
blues classics, and jazz standards. Everyone from Bob Wills to J.R. Chatwell, from
T-Bone Walker to Lightnin' Hopkins, from Miles Davis to John Coltrane. And rolling
papers, of course. A gallon jar full of the finest Mexican weed available. A refrigerator
full of Big Red sodas and Pearl Beer and molding weeks-old tamales. No phone. And,
usually... More [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001bQKkq6lRHszzjozOFXhuRZkaTI6pmSjXm6m6acIuoYtypA_NdfFh-9yJJARw-Nc9Gm7DOkoo6jpE0_nhhgntVgvPRx7aSRbXfWbelC5sxqAtJsrjqBUOYrBp08bT2n0z6hou8W_NDv0teh1WS3At3qp2PMuvOa5s8LzsK6XweEcSZgODU4RB7w==]

Guy Clark's 'My Favorite Picture of You' is touching and topical
by Ken Paulson
Like Kris Kristofferson's recent Feeling Mortal, Guy Clark's My Favorite Picture
of You reflects the years. On the new album, due July 23 on Dualtone, Clark's
voice is softer and weathered. But if time has taken a physical toll, it's made
the music matter more. This is Clark's first album in four years and it was worth
the wait. The title song...
