From Kim Ruehl, your Guide to Folk Music
With the summer slowly drawing to a close (some students go back to school next week!), it's a good time to make sure you have the best new music available to squeeze the best times possible out of what remains of this summer. Check out my picks for Best of 2012 so far, or share your own if you think I missed out on something.

The Five Best Folk Albums of 2012...So Far
This has been an interesting year in the realms of folk, bluegrass, and Americana music. The arc of new music seems to have been bending more toward the topical than has been the case in previous years, but the music is no less imaginative and envelope-pushing. Check out my five favorite albums of 2012 so far.

Vote for Your Favorites: Best of 2012
Considering the "Best of the Year So Far" lists only five albums, it's likely something that's blown your mind doesn't appear on the list. So, let's have it. What's your favorite album of 2012 so far? Cast your vote in this poll.

Anais Mitchell - 'Young Man in America'
Rounding out the list was the difficult part - choosing the best folk album of the year was not. If you've yet to hear Anais Mitchell's remarkable follow-up to her folk opera 'Hadestown', you're in for a treat. Check out my full review then hear it for yourself.

Old Crow Medicine Show - 'Carry Me Back'
One of the albums that made my list was this gem from Old Crow Medicine Show - which came out just in time to be included. It's a rollicking romp of a disc, showcasing all the fantastic qualities for which this band has become so praised. Check out my full review here.
